Womens Pavilion has been doing medical abortions (RU486), since 1998. We were one of the trial clinics that tested the drug for the F.D.A. Our success rate has been 98.5% effective with no major complications. You are here approximatly 1 1/2 hours your first visit, 1/2 hour for your check up.

Take one pill orally after clinical assessment, counseling, consent forms and lab work . We will send you home with 4 pills to be done vaginally at 36 to48 hours. This medication is called misoprostol (cytotech). The first medication weakens the attachment of the pregnancy by depleting the progesterone. The second medication (misoprostol) creates cramping and bleeding which expels the pregnancy. You may have heavy cramping, bleeding and large clots. We require you to come back for 2 possibly 3 post checks. It is a necessity that your first checkup be at 7-8 days after RU486.

Approximate total time at the clinic is 3-4 hours. Included is consents, lab work, counseling, procedure time and recovory time. We ask you to bring $70.00 extra just in case you are RH negative (a blood type), which is $50.00, or have only had a home test and need a blood pregnancy test which is $20.00. If those are unnecessary you will take the extra $70.00 home. Surgical fee includeds a check up exam.


A surgical abortion requires an ultrasound, local anesthia (lidocaine), dilation of the cervix, aspiration of uterine contents, and curritage. This takes approximately 3-5 minutes. You have hard cramping during that time, and the first 15 minutes in the recovery room. You may come alone unless you want I.M. sedation (stadol-compazine) which is $50.00 and you must have a driver who is here the whole time.
